An Example Hand of Omaha – Rules & Game Play
This is a good example of what a typical hand with omaha looks like. All things relating to omaha Hi/Lo will be explained during/after "What Hands Win" section.
The Blinds & Hole Card
Omaha poker is a game that involves blinds. There are two types of blinds that must be posted: the large blind and the small blind. In an $2/$4 omaha match, $2 would be for the small blind and $4 for the big blind. The small blind is the one sitting left of a dealer button, while the big blind is that player to his right (2 seats to his left of a dealer button).
Once the blinds have been posted, each player is dealt four cards, starting with the small blind. The cards are dealt clockwise around the table until each player has their hole cards.
Preflop
After all cards have already been dealt, the betting round will commence. The first betting round begins with the player who is left of the big button. This player is also known as the "under-the-gun" player or "utg," and has the option of folding, calling, or raising the big blind.
The betting action will continue clockwise at the table until all the players have had the opportunity. Each player will be able to fold, call, or raise depending on what action is in front of them.
Once all players have acted they will move on to the flop.
Flop
The flop is 3 community (of 5) cards that players can use in order to make the best 5-card hand. A new round of betting will commence once the dealer has dealt three cards face up.
Preflop saw betting action begin with the person to the left from the big blind. However, action on the flip and all subsequent rounds will be initiated with the player closest towards the dealer button.
This player will be able to choose whether they want to check (pass) and/or place a wager. After the player has acted they will have the option of checking, folding, calling or betting depending on the action.
If there is more than one player left after each actor has had their chance to act, the turn will be taken by the remaining players. how to play omaha poker beginners rules to get you started
